Description: 15 January 1984 the council of retired teachers formed a
folklore ensemble under the management of Anita Lipkova. From beginning the
ensemble was based at culture house of Rezekne district, but in October 12
it was transferred "under the wing" of the poultry factory. The name have
was given to it on 8 January 1985. We liked the Latgalian songs with refrain
"rūtoj", therefore we chose the name Rūta. As the collective had grown
too big, 23 April 1985 an ensemble of retired teachers separated from us. New
participants from the poultry factory came to Rūta. After liquidation of
the factory in 1990 the ensemble is patronized by the Rezekne culture house.
Leaders have changed also: since 1987 the group has been managed by Inese
Pāvula, but since 1993 - by Margarita Kozlovska.
Rūta actively participates in Rezekne public life: on weddings,
funerals, television festivals, calendar holidays - on Shrovetide, George's
day, John's day, Michael's day, Anna's day, Martinmas, Christmas. We have give
a concert in Rokiskis (Lithuania), participated in festivals Baltica-94, 97,
XXII Songs festival, acted in Ventspils, Jurkalne, Vilani.
Our repertoir depends on the calendar - and the type of arrangement,
and consists not only of songs, but also of various inserts, including
humoresques. We have gathered about 200 songs: wedding, labour, funeral,
patriotic, drastic, Christmas and mummers' songs, Easter, chaffing songs,
romances and roundelays.
